Snagbook Privacy Policy
Effective 24 October 2026 (updated for the iPhone app)
In short: Snagbook keeps everything you enter on your own phone. We have no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no advertising. The app only goes online to check and make purchases through Google Play or the App Store. We never receive your data or your clients' data. Data only leaves your phone when you choose to share a report or save a backup, and it goes only where you send it.
1. Who we are
Snagbook is made by Felipe Bertanha, a sole trader based in Ireland ("we", "us"). For anything about privacy, contact support@snagbook.ie.
2. What the app stores, and where
Everything below is stored only in the app's private storage on your device:
- Your details: your name and, for professionals, your company name, qualifications, phone, email, website and logo, which appear on your reports.
- Inspection data: property addresses, client and developer names, notes, snag descriptions and photos that you take or choose.
We (the developer) cannot see or access any of it. Other apps cannot read it.
3. Your clients' personal data
Inspections usually include personal data about your clients, such as their name, address and photos of their home. When you use Snagbook for your business, you are the data controller for that data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You decide what to record and who receives reports. You are responsible for having a lawful basis, telling your clients how you use their data, and keeping reports and backups secure. Because Snagbook keeps everything on your device and never sends it to us, we do not process your clients' data on your behalf.
If you use Snagbook to check your own home, the data is about you and your property, and it stays on your phone in the same way.
4. When data leaves your phone
Only when you take one of these actions:
- Sharing a PDF report. The report goes to the app or person you choose, such as email, WhatsApp or Google Drive. That service's own privacy policy then applies.
- Saving a backup. The backup file goes to the location you pick, such as Google Drive, iCloud Drive, OneDrive or a folder on your phone. It contains all your inspections, photos and business details. It is not encrypted, so store it somewhere private and delete old backups you no longer need.
On Android, Snagbook does not use Android's automatic cloud backup, so your data is not copied to Google in the background. It may be copied when you transfer everything to a new phone using Android's device-to-device transfer.
On iPhone, Snagbook's data is included in your iPhone's own backup, like other apps' data, if you have iCloud Backup or computer backups turned on. Apple stores iCloud backups encrypted. It is also copied when you move everything to a new iPhone.
5. Permissions
- Camera: the walk-through mode uses the camera inside the app, and asks for the camera permission the first time you open it. The camera is only used when you take a photo. Photos are saved only in Snagbook's private storage. Taking photos for a single snag uses the same in-app camera.
- Voice snags (Android only; the iPhone app has no microphone button): when you tap the microphone button, Snagbook opens your phone's built-in speech recognition, usually Google's, which records you and returns the text. Snagbook never receives the audio and does not request the microphone permission. Snagbook asks for offline recognition, but if your phone has no offline language pack, the speech service provider may process the audio online under its own privacy policy. To avoid this, download the English (Ireland) offline speech pack in your phone's settings, or don't use the microphone button.
- Photos: the Android and iPhone photo pickers let you choose specific photos. Snagbook cannot see the rest of your gallery or photo library.
- Internet: used only by Google Play's billing library on Android and Apple's App Store on iPhone, to check what you have bought and to make purchases. Snagbook does not send your inspections, photos or details over the network.
6. Google Play and the App Store
When you download Snagbook, Google processes data under the Google Privacy Policy (Google Play), or Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy (App Store).
Purchases (the one-off Home unlock and the Pro subscription) are made and paid for through Google Play or the App Store, which handle your payment details under their own privacy policies. We never see your card details. When the app starts, it asks Google Play or the App Store on your phone what you have bought, so it can unlock reports. We receive Google's and Apple's standard sales reports, which include the product, the price and your country (Google's also include an order number), but not your name or contact details. We use them only to run and account for the business, and keep them as long as Irish tax law requires.
7. If you contact us
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply and to provide support. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). We keep the correspondence for as long as needed to deal with your request, and for no more than two years afterwards. Please don't send us client data. We don't need it to help you.
8. How long data is kept
Data stays on your device until you delete it in the app, clear the app's storage (Android) or uninstall Snagbook. Uninstalling removes everything except backup files you saved elsewhere and, on iPhone, earlier iPhone backups that still include it.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, port and object to the processing of your personal data. Because we hold no data about you, other than any emails you send us, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app: edit or delete any entry, or uninstall. For emails you have sent us, contact us at the address above.
You can also complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at www.dataprotection.ie, or to the supervisory authority in your own EU country.
10. Children
Snagbook is not intended for children under 16.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above. If a change is significant, such as adding online features, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
